Mom Of Missing Girl Fears She Fled N.Y. With Man She Met On Facebook

Authorities in New York are seeking information about a 15-year-old girl who has been missing since last year.

Dalene Mcilwain left her mother's Niagara Falls home on Sept. 6, 2013, when she was 14 years old. She has not returned to her family and authorities suspect she could be in Baltimore, Maryland, with a 24-year-old man she met online.

Shortly before Mcilwain went missing, the teen argued with her mother about Facebook. Her mother reportedly had forbidden her from using the website.

"That's what really broke up our relationship -- the Facebook situation," the teen's mom, Helena Ubiles, told Buffalo's WGRZ-News.

It remains unclear why Mcilwain's case is just now making news. The City of Niagara Falls Police Department did not return calls for comment from HuffPost and a phone listing for Ubiles is no longer in service.

According to Baltimore's WJZ-News, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children has joined in the effort to locate the missing teen. Contacted by HuffPost Monday, a spokesperson for the organization was not immediately available.

If Mcilwain is located, she will likely be placed in state custody. Her mother, according to WGRZ-News, does not want her.

"I want her to go into a home," Ubiles told the news station. "She could never come here and try to live. I have sleepless nights now. I don't want to have them when she comes back."

Mcilwain is described as an African American female, about 5 feet 2 inches tall and about 100 pounds. She has black hair, which authorities say may have been dyed gold, and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on Mcilwain can call NCMEC at 800-THE-LOST (843-5678) or The City of Niagara Falls Police Department at 716-286-4547.
