Dan Savage's 'Real Time With Bill Maher' Appearance Condemned By Catholic League

Dan Savage's 'Kiddie-F*cking' Priest Rant Prompts Catholic Backlash

Outspoken lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights advocate and author Dan Savage is no stranger to courting controversy, and his latest remarks have him back in the headlines once again.

The Catholic League's Bill Donohue is now calling for the cancellation of "Real Time with Bill Maher" in the wake of Savage's appearance on the HBO show, TMZ first reported.

In a strongly-worded letter on the Catholic League's website, Donohoe slams Savage as "another anti-Catholic bigot," before condemning remarks made in conversation with "Real Time" host Bill Maher:

Maher commented on gay couples who adopt children, alleging that a Hawaiian bishop said these kids had a greater chance of committing suicide. Here is how Savage responded: “That’s total bulls***. He’s confusing children of gay parents with children who are raped by Catholic priests. Sorry, I am just done being lectured about children and their safety by Catholic-f***ing bishops, priests, cardinals.” Shortly thereafter, Savage again remarked about “kiddie-f***ing Catholic priests.”

Vowing to sending Time Warner officials "a copy of 54 anti-Catholic statements" Maher has made on TV, Donohue concludes: "The time has come to close this show once and for all."

Meanwhile, Savage is seemingly laughing off the criticism. With a link to the original TMZ report, he tweeted the following:
