Dave Bing, Detroit Mayor, Praises End To Federal Oversight Of Water and Sewerage Department

Mayor Bing Is Happy About Change In Water Department's Status

(DETROIT) -- Detroit Mayor Dave Bing has applauded the decision by Judge Sean Cox to end federal oversight of the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department after 35 years.

On Wednesday supervisory duties for the department were handed over to the Department of Environmental Quality, with Mayor Bing citing this as a positive sign for the city.

"Judge Cox's action is a positive decision, effectively demonstrating that Detroit is moving away from federal oversight back to City control," Bing said in a statement. "I commend the men and women of DWSD and the consulting team for their tireless efforts in taking the necessary steps to improve our Water and Sewerage Department."
