Dave Schultheis: Jared Polis Preaches Lies "To Men He Knows To Be Idiots"

Tempers are flaring in Colorado over reactions to Arizona's controversial immigration bill. On Monday, Colorado Representative Jared Polis said the law, which requires immigrants to carry paperwork at all times, is "Absolutely reminiscent of second class status of Jews in Germany prior to World War II when they had to have their papers with them at all times and were subject to routine inspections at the suspicion of being Jewish."

In response, State Senator Dave Schultheis, who has taken heat for numerous over the top statements, including comparing Barack Obama to the 9/11 hijackers, called Polis a demagogue, and accused him of "dangerous hyperbole."

"H.L. Mencken once defined a demagogue as one who preaches doctrines he knows to be untrue to men he knows to be idiots... Congressman Polis most certainly fits that definition," Schultheis said in a statement from the Colorado Senate Republicans.

Schultheis defended the law, arguing that it doesn't trample on civil liberties, because citizens who present valid documentation to police are presumed to be in the country legally.
