Letterman's Son Celebrates Birthday With Durango Train Ride

David Letterman's son Harry celebrated his eighth birthday with a train ride on the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (D&SNG) on Saturday, The Denver Post reports.

7News reports that the Letterman family rode a private train from Durango to Cascade Canyon -- a total of 26 miles through the San Juan National Forest.

After the ride, D&SNG owner Al Harper gave Letterman a tour of the train museum and roundhouse and told the Durango Herald, "He could not have been nicer. Very humble."

The historic railroad arrived in Durango in August 1881, by July 1882 the tracks to Silverton were complete and the train hauled both passengers and freight. Today, the trains that run on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad are vintage 1923-25 coal-fired, steam-operated trains.
