Wednesday night the Mission district of San Francisco was packed with skeletons -- of all shapes and sizes -- for El Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. The traditional Mexican holiday celebrates the spirits of loved ones who have passed away. Day of the Dead in San Francisco is a colorful and joyous tribute that draws thousands of people who took to the streets for the procession that spanned down Mission Street.

In the Mexican culture, it's believed that souls don't die. Instead, our souls leave our bodies and continue living in a sacred space until they return to visit their relatives.

There was no shortage of shortage of giant painted skulls clad in formal wear as rich the pageantry drew a crowd in elaborate costumers and country garb.
