WASHINGTON -- Chris Garlock, a mobilizer for the AFL-CIO and creator of D.C.'s labor history online map -- will be leading a walking tour of the District's forgotten protests, leaders and unions this weekend.
"One of the reasons we do this is to reclaim that history," Garlock told to The Huffington Post. "With very few exceptions there are no statues, or monuments, or plaques."
The tour starts at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center -- where there is a statue of cigar maker-cum-union president Samuel Gompers -- and ends at the AFL-CIO headquarters at 815 16th St. NW, near the White House.
There will be lots of stops along the way, including at the current labor protests in Freedom Plaza and McPherson Square.
"Occupy DC is very much of a live thing right now," Garlock said. "And those of us who have been there, who were involved with it, will know about that. I'm willing to hazard a guess there's not going to be a statue to the occupiers put up in McPherson Square."
The tour is this Saturday, from 2-4 p.m. It begins at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center (801 Mount Vernon Place NW), meeting at the New York Avenue entrance.

UPDATE: Lillian Shelton of D.C. Jobs with Justice emailed to say that the tour has been rescheduled due to the weather. Shelton says that the tour will likely be on Saturday, November 5. Keep an eye on the event listing for more updates.
