Dead Baby Found In NJ Stream: Police Search For Father Arthur Morgan III

Police Search For Father Of Baby Found In Stream

New Jersey police are hunting for a father who had custody of his two-year-old daughter the day before she was found dead, strapped in a car seat and submerged in the Shark River.

Arthur Morgan III was supposed to return Tierra Morgan to her mother by 7 p.m. on Monday night after taking the girl to a park and to see a movie, "Happy Feet Two." But by 10 p.m. he hadn't brought her home, prompting Tierra's mom, Imani Benton, to call police The Asbury Park Press reports.

The search for the missing toddler ended on Tuesday afternoon with a tragic discovery when a 15-year-old boy told a Monmouth County park ranger he saw what could have been a baby or a doll in a stream, The Star-Ledger says.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday and police issued warrants for Morgan's arrest on charges of child endangerment and interference with custody, according to Patch. Morgan picked up his daughter from Benton earlier on Monday.

Prosecutors suspect that the girl was thrown from an overpass, which runs above the stream where she was found, CNN says.

A massive manhunt is underway for Morgan, who was possibly spotted boarding a train without his daughter on Monday, The Asbury Park Press reports.
