A former high-ranking Republican Party of Florida official claimed in recently unsealed testimony that he had once witnessed a group of "presume[d]" prostitutes tooling around in a golf cart at a GOP fundraiser in the Bahamas.
According to the Orlando Sentinel's review of a deposition recorded in June, former Florida GOP executive director Delmar Johnson described a 2008 event held by Republicans in the Caribbean.
"I specifically saw a golf cart with young ladies drive by, the extent of why they were there I did not specifically know," Johnson said in a sworn statement. "But I could presume they were prostitutes."
Johnson went on to contend that other Florida GOP officials, such as ousted chairman Jim Greer and Tallahassee lobbyist Brian Ballard were among the fundraiser's notable Republican attendees.
Greer is currently awaiting trial on theft and fraud charges. He is alleged to have created a third-party group with Johnson that was eventually used to bilk the Florida GOP out of thousands of dollars. Johnson agreed to testify against Greer and repay the profits he made off the venture in order to avoid criminal charges.
The legal proceedings against Greer have prompted bombshell allegations from the former chairman himself. Greer claimed in July that party officials had discussed methods to suppress the black vote at a meeting in 2009. He also accused former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist of paying various parties to conceal his supposed gay affairs.
Johnson's latest charge about prostitutes at the well-attended Florida GOP fundraiser has already drawn a quick rebuttal. Ballard told the Sentinel that he was at the event in question, but that the partygoers were being "thrown into a scandalous lie" by Johnson's "ridiculous and disgusting" testimony.
