Demi Lovato Says Her Meltdown Wasn't Caused By Her Breakup

Demi Lovato: I Was Completely Out Of Line Last Summer

Former Disney star Demi Lovato sat down with Elle Magazine for a frank discussion about the events that led her to rehab last November.

The actress and singer told Elle that her behavior was "completely out of line" during her tour with the Jonas Brothers last summer.

She also spoke about backup dancer Alex Welch who Lovato punched last year, "I just felt like she'd betrayed me,That's the bottom line... When you punch someone on a plane, enough is enough, Right after, I texted my mom and just said, 'I'm sorry."

Lovato, who shot to fame on the Disney circuit with her hit TV show "Sonny With A Chance" and the "Camp Rock" movies, was treated in rehab for depression, an eating disorder and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder -- all issues she's been very vocal about since her release.

Many believed that it was Lovato's much much publicized breakup with Joe Jonas -- who she was stuck touring with last summer -- that led to her breakdown. But Lovato is quick to discredit that theory telling Elle, "I wouldn't credit my meltdown to a guy. There was so much other stuff in my life."

But even before the incident with her backup dancer there had been rumors of drug use and self-mutilation, but Lovato told the magazine, she needed to hit rock bottom before she was ready to talk about her problems.
