Denver's Mayor Hancock Used To Be 'Huddles,' 1986 Denver Broncos Mascot

WATCH: Denver's New Mayor Used To Be Denver Broncos Mascot 'Huddles'

We don't have the resources to guarantee it, but we're fairly certain Denver's newly-elected Mayor Hancock is the only big-city mayor in history who also held a field position on an NFL team. And not as some puny, fifth-string kicker, either. Buried deep on his election website, underneath the feel-good prose about being a family man who rose out of adversity, it sits--inconspicuous and just two sentences long: Michael "went to the Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos in 1987 ... Michael was the Broncos' team mascot that season."

A 1987 article, quoted by the Denver Post's Mike Littwin, describes the mascot 'Huddles' as a "white horse who walks around on his hind legs and . . . dances near the end zone every time there is a touchdown and then runs to the sidelines to shake hoofs with the fans."

That means Hancock ... er, 'Huddles,' was present for "The Drive" when John Elway drove the Broncos 98 yards to win in the final moments of a 1986 AFC championship game against Cleveland. Denver's 45th mayor-to-be is visible (if you squint) somewhere in the background of this amazing piece of nostalgic Broncos youtube memoriabilia:
