DMX To Iyanla Vanzant On Spending Part Of His Childhood Institutionalized: 'I Enjoyed It' (VIDEO)

WATCH: Iyanla Asks DMX, 'Are You High?'

DMX is a multiplatinum hip-hop artist and actor. He might also turn out to be one of the most controversial guests of Iyanla Vanzant's career. In this sneak peek from the 90-minute premiere episode of "Iyanla: Fix My Life," DMX and Iyanla meet in DMX's hometown of Yonkers, New York, for what ends up being an explosive sit-down.

During the course of the conversation, DMX and Iyanla tackle topics such as drugs, women, the rapper's relationship with his son and DMX's arrest record. Despite having been arrested "roughly 30" times, DMX tells Iyanla in this clip that prison wasn't painful for him, because being institutionalized was something he had experienced as a child.

"My mom put me away at 7," DMX says. "I enjoyed it… Being in institutions, I got three meals a day, clothes..."

"So then why are you hurt because your mother put you in there?" Iyanla asks.

"I mean, everybody wants their mother to want them," DMX tells her. "In one breath, I'd be mama's little man, man of the house. In the next breath... 'You ain't gonna be s---.' Who am I? Who am I, mom?"

When Iyanla poses that question to DMX, asking him who he is, he tells her that he is a blessing. "I'm a blessing to whoever gets to really know me," he says, saying that he also believes he is a blessing to himself.

Iyanla then prepares a difficult question for DMX. "Okay, help me. Help me. And I will accept whatever you offer me in this moment, okay? Okay? And I'm going to ask you and then I'm going to be done with it," she says to him. "Are you high?"*

Watch DMX on the season premiere of "Iyanla: Fix My Life" on Saturday, April 13, at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.
