DNC Launches Robocall Campaign To 'Hold Wall Street Bankers Accountable'

The Democratic National Committee has launched a robocall campaign pushing Americans to back financial regulatory reform legislation on the eve of its consideration in the Senate.

An official with the committee confirmed to the Huffington Post that calls are being made -- officially by Organizing for America (the White House's campaign arm) -- in a number of states across the country.

"Hello, I'm calling from Organizing for America," the script reads. "The time is now to hold Wall Street bankers accountable to consumers and establish the strongest protections in our history. But we must fight to protect Americans from banks' abusive practices. To join me in holding Wall Street accountable, press 1 now."

The campaign is a minor element in a broader effort on behalf of the Democratic machinery and allied groups to generate popular support for reform legislation. More than anything else, the robocall seems designed to keep lines of communication open between the DNC and its activist base, which has been primed for a fight on this front.

The DNC did not say how much money they're putting into the campaign.
