Dolphin In NYC Hudson River Spotted Swimming From Harlem To Chelsea (PHOTO)

LOOK: Dolphin Spotted Swimming In The Hudson River!

A dolphin was spotted swimming along the Hudson River on Sunday, providing lucky onlookers with a rare glimpse of aquatic wildlife here in the concrete jungle.

The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation confirmed the sighting to DNAinfo and said they initially heard the dolphin at 2PM near Harlem, and then at around 4:30PM, it was spotted again near Chelsea.

In 2010, several dolphins were photographed swimming in the East River and Newtown Creek, between Brooklyn and Queens.

Past dolphins sightings have raised speculation over whether city rivers are actually cleaner than perceived. When several bottlenose dolphins were spotted in 2009, experts noted the animals were likely here following food and a return in the years following could signal clean enough waters to possibly sustain their population.

Dolphin sightings are indeed a rarity in New York. But marine experts warn, if you happen to stumble upon one, abstain from feeding them!
