People online mocked President Donald Trump after he joked about falling asleep during a Friday speech made by Barack Obama, in which his predecessor was critical of him.
“I’m sorry, I watched it, but I fell asleep,” Trump claimed at an event in North Dakota Friday, responding to Obama’s earlier address at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Twitter users were quick to suggest alternative reasons for why it really sent Trump into a slumber. Some were more lighthearted than others:
Trump "fell asleep" during Barack Obama's speech because it wore him out looking up all those words in the dictionary.

The rest of us haven’t gotten a wink since November 2016.
Maybe Trump fell asleep - to complex sentences for him - but Melania was watching and recording Obama's speech...

trump said he tried to watch Obama's speech but fell asleep. This only illustrates his ignorance and his childishly short attention span. It was such a relief to hear an intelligent President expressing himself skillfully in complete sentences, without the spite and fearmongering pic.twitter.com/1BAjF7Sef8

Before Trump tries to call Obama low energy please remind him who fell asleep during the middle of the day! #MAGA

Trump said he fell asleep during President Obama’s speech. That’s a shame. If Trump had listened, he may have learned something about what America is all about and what Americans stand for. Just another missed opportunity.

Today #trump said #Obamas speech made him fall asleep.

However it wasn't because of boredom. The truth is the words Obama used and his message was way above his comprehension.@realDonaldTrump
Obama delivered an eloquent and piercing analysis of the state of the union. Trump fell asleep

Of course Trump fell asleep. Obama sometimes uses words of more than 2 syllables.

Trump's slurring again, this time while mocking Pres. Obama by saying he fell asleep during the speech.

We didn't. We heard all of it, every intelligent, clear, rational, pointed, opposite-of-Trump word.
Trump said he watched and he fell asleep during Obama’s speech. Melania will now play that speech on repeat in the bedroom.
