In light of yesterdays testimony by my fellow Yonkers native James Comey, I feel compelled to say goodbye to Donald Trump. Sure, he’s still the president and very well may be for the next four years (doubtful) but I feel compelled to sing him a swan song - figuratively anyway. Oh, and I’ll add this, if Richard Nixon were alive he’d probably be making huge “WTF” signs, knowing full well he’d still be in office despite Watergate. Anyway, enough. Let’s get with my attempt at being funny. Here’s my version of “Candle in the Wind” - an ode to “The Donald.” Hey, Elton John has rewritten the lyrics I might as well.
Though we never knew you at all
You had no grace to contain yourself
And Clinton voters around you bawled
Your voters crawled out of the woodwork
And the Russians whispered into your brain
They set you on the campaign trail
And you said you’d build a wall
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a cheek squeak in the wind
Shifting the blame of where the smell came from
And I would have liked to have like you
But you’re a lying, woman-bashing, Muslim-hating, egotistical, orange kid
Your candle burned out shortly after
Hardly anyone saw you sworn in
Quitting The Apprentice was tough
The toughest move you ever made
We thought you’d try to defeat ISIS
But weekend golf was the price we paid
Oh the “fake news” press still hounded you
All the papers (and everyone) had to say
Was there was no wiretapping, stop Tweeting, and Donald was not telling the truth
From Big Bird, that immigrant held at JFK, and the trans kid in the wrong bathroom stall
Who sees you as something as less of a president
And more of a paranoid reality TV show host
And it seems to me you lived your life...
Like a cheek squeak in the wind
Shifting the blame of where the smell came from
And I would’ve liked to like you
But you’re a lying, woman-bashing, Muslim hating, egotistical, orange kid (If this were Elton singing, he’d say it like this keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed)
Your candle burned out shortly after
Hardly anyone saw you sworn in
