Sunday Shows Talk Trump, Trump And More Trump

NEW YORK -- If it's Sunday, it's Donald Trump time.

The political media didn't take even a day of rest last weekend from its ongoing obsession with the real estate developer-turned-Republican candidate.

Every presidential candidate, governor, journalist and pundit making the rounds could anticipate a Sunday show host might turn their way for thoughts on Trump's latest remarks (or his offensive claims made nearly a month ago about Mexican immigrants being "rapists" and drug smugglers).

On July 5, Sunday show hosts sought responses to Trump's remarks from presidential candidates including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) and former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.). This past Sunday, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) were up.

Bush, who spoke to reporters a week earlier about Trump, wasn't having it on Sunday.

"I've already stated my views about Donald Trump," Bush said on "Fox News Sunday."

"You're done?" asked Fox's Bret Baier.

"I'm done," Bush said. "I'm through. I gave my views."

The coverage Sunday wasn't all positive, with a "Meet the Press" montage highlighting Trump's shifting views over the years and his past praise for President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. But for Trump, who has risen in the polls while bashing the same national media giving him oxygen, an old maxim rings true: All press is good press. Trump slammed "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd on Twitter that night, leading to even more coverage.

"He's running for one reason only," Yahoo's Matt Bai said on "Meet the Press," "so people like us will sit around, on sets like this, and talk about him."
