For more than 30 years, Dream Theater has pushed the boundaries of progressive rock and metal. Aside from being incredibly talented and proficient musicians, they're actually all very nice guys. I've had the pleasure of meeting them all over the years and I've even interviewed keyboardist extraordinaire Jordan Rudess about a wide variety of different subjects.

I recently sat down with lead guitarist and founding member John Petrucci to talk about the band's upcoming studio album The Astonishing--its thirteenth. To call it ambitious would be a vast understatement. The Astonishing is a character-based two-act double album that tells the story of dystopian future in which only machines can create music.
