'Drugged': Mom Tries To Get Son Heroin In A Hospital

"Drugged" revealed the story of Schuyler, a 21-year-old heroin addict who uses up to four times a day. As has been shown on several other television shows dealing with addiction, his mother, Hope, played a vital role in his addiction, despite fearing for his life.

She explained, "It is much worse for me to see my son withdrawing from heroin than when he’s on it." And so, Hope helped him get high by paying for his drugs.

Schuyler did agree to travel to Dallas to explore treatment options and get some tests done to see how much damage he might have done to himself. Even there, though, his mother was trying to enable him as Schuyler started to go through symptoms of withdrawal.

"If someone were to offer to bring Schuyler some heroin up here, it would make our life a lot better," she said.

A psychologist speculated that Schuyler could die in six months if he didn't break his addiction and so he agreed to a 90-day rehab program. However, he only made it two months before he left and started using again.

Not all stories of addiction come with a happy ending, as addiction can be a vicious thing to break free of. More stories of the struggle unfold every Sunday on "Drugged," Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on National Geographic.
