Drunk Tinley Cop John Leonard Threatened Sex Assault On Arresting Officer

A Drunk Cop's Profane, Disturbing Threats To His Arresting Officer

A police officer from south suburban Tinley Park faces felony charges after he allegedly threatened to sodomize his arresting officer during a disturbing drunken rant after he was arrested for a DUI hit-and-run.

On May 1, Frankfort, IL police were called to the scene of an accident, according to an incident report obtained by Tinley Park Patch. When the primary officer responded, he found a smashed-up Buick and a couple in some discomfort. They described to the officer a dark SUV with front-end damage that hit their car and proceeded to drive away.

The officer radioed out an alert, and shortly thereafter, a car matching the description was found, and it had a missing piece of front bumper that matched debris found at the accident scene. The driver, John Leonard, was apparently quite drunk and had an open glass of beer in the back seat.

He also had a handgun, multiple boxes of ammunition, a bulletproof vest, an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement ID and other law enforcement gear. "Tinley cop," Leonard allegedly muttered as he was being questioned, according to the report. The vehicle, it turned out, was an unmarked police car.

Leonard was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash and driving under the influence. At the Frankfort Police Station, the harassment reportedly began.

When Leonard asked to use the bathroom, the arresting officer escorted him to a cell. While urinating, the officer reports that Leonard told him, "I'm gonna buttf*** you." Later, he would repeat the threat, call the officer a "f***ing idiot," and tell him to "shut the f*** up." He also maintained his innocence in the case, and said that by arresting Leonard, the officer was "f***ing [his] little girls."

The Assistant State's Attorney approved felony DUI and leaving the scene charges for Leonard, who was indeed a Tinley Park police officer.
