Elizabeth Taylor Auction: By Christie's And MOCA At PDC (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

"Elizabeth Taylor is one of the great cultural icons," Jeffrey Deitch told HuffPost at The Elizabeth Taylor Collection preview. "She is a part of our history and should be celebrated." And that is exactly what Christie's did.

With help from MOCA at the Pacific Design Center, Christie's presents an exhibition of Elizabeth Taylor's legendary jewels, exquisite wardrobe, and pop-culture images. "This presentation is very special for the community, there are so many people who want to understand this side of Elizabeth Taylor," Deitch continued.

The violet-eyed Taylor was muse to many -- including her seven husbands -- who were known to drape her in diamonds. So much so that Andy Warhol even said, "It would be very glamorous to be reincarnated as a great big ring on Liz Taylor's finger." Her famed jewelry collection is included in this exhibition, including one of the most well-know rings, the 33.19 carat Burton Diamond which is expected to fetch between $2.5 and $3.5 million.

According to the LA Times, the show quickly sold out. Five thousand total tickets were available at $20 each; 850 sold within the first two hours.

The proceeds for the exhibition are split between The Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation and MOCA.

The auction begins in New York on December 13 but will be previewed here in Los Angeles at MOCA October 13-16.

Additional viewing hours have been added for Friday and Saturday night to accomodate the high demand. Tickets for these additional hours will cost $50 each and will go on sale October 11 at Christie's.
