Brought to you by the team responsible for the Manifest Hope art shows during the '08 campaign, and the follow-up book Art for Obama, Manifest Equality presents an art contest, exhibition, event slate, and public-awareness campaign. Part of a multimedia call-to-action in the name of universal equal rights, the event features works by artists such as Elizabeth McGrath, Gary Baseman, Luke Chueh, and Ron English, just to name a few. The insta-gallery rallies for equal rights to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered Americans, with an opening party Wednesday night, a "Make Something School" led by Beautiful Losers mastermind Aaron Rose, and a closing party on Saturday night, just in time to add a little blue state pizzazz to the red carpet hustle. Certain events may require an RSVP or a ticket purchase; check the event site for details.

Daily
The Continental Gallery

Info

Between their individual projects and their extensive collaborative undertakings, the six artists in Focus Daily operate in photography, painting, fashion, video, installation, music, poetry, and performance art. As deliberately blurring boundaries between art forms and social modalities is something of a hobby for them, expect Austrians Lukas Gansterer, Matthias Koenigswieser, Ulrich Nausner, Thomas Rhube, Clemens Wolf, and Joseph Kosir (from the Netherlands) to have something really special up their sleeve for this limited LA engagement. Gallery hours are between the opening reception and Downtown Art Walk dates only, and thereafter by appoinment through 3.28.

The quarterly Tight Shortz Film, Music, and Art Festival is cleverly timed to debut on Oscar Sunday, and features live entertainment, food, shopping, and of course, short films. Tight Shortz, a community of up-and-coming filmmakers, aims to inspire artists to "stop waiting for that 'one lucky break'" and take charge of their own creative paths. The all-day fête is followed by a screening of a wide variety of short films, from dramas, documentaries, and comedies to animation and music videos.
