'Ethnic Studies' Debate Results In Arizona Lawsuit

CNN reports that 11 teachers in Tucson, Ariz., have sued the state board of education and its superintendent, Tom Horne, over what they call an anti-Hispanic ban on Mexican-American studies.

According to CNN:

The law authorizes the superintendent to stop any ethnic studies classes that "promote the overthrow of the United States government ... promote resentment toward a race or class of people ... (or) advocate ethnic solidarity instead of treatment of pupils as individuals."

The law is expected to take effect on Dec. 31. Read more about the debate on CNN.
