Today marks the premiere of “Blind,” the new music video from Brother Sundance, who writes, records and produces all his music. “Blind” is from his debut EP, Honey. The song has streamed more than one million times on Spotify.

“Blind” is “about the other end of a relationship, the tail end of something coming to a close,” says Brother Sundance.

Brother Sundance took to music early, playing the drums at the age of two. Later, he picked up a guitar and began to sing. Fronting the punk-blues band Wallace, he traveled around South Florida performing in clubs. When the band dissolved, Brother Sundance decided to go solo. His sound blends pop, hip hop, electronic and R&B into soulful music full of passionate energy and a fresh, cool feel.

“Blind” opens with surfacing keyboards and a solid groove, pulsating with a trap-like beat. A slow throbbing bassline holds down the bottom, as light synths glow softly in the background, giving the tune vulnerable colors. As the melody ascends to its climax on the solo, it takes on an orchestral emanation of shimmering harmonics.

Brother Sundance’s voice is cool and vamping, full of smooth creamy timbres. And the vocal harmonies, Brother Sundance’s combined with the female voices, scintillate with melancholy hues rife with sad regret. The shivering passion of hesitation and wistful heartache emanates from Brother Sundance’s voice, imbuing the tune with a funereal hue of emotion.

The lyrics of “Blind” speak of the emotional tug-of-war taking place between lovers as their relationship slides down the slippery slope of inevitability.

“You and me, forever love, forever 'cause / You and me, we've seen it all, the worst is done / We'll be strong as rock no matter what / Love please, don't leave me hung, leave me behind / Just say the word and let me be / You've broken me / Please say the word so I'll be free / I'm better off lonely / Blind eyes and a little bit of time / As she waits for his reply, whoa oh oh / Cracked lines and a sadness in her eyes / As the time ticks by, the time ticks by.”

The video, shot in muted hues of color, depicts the emotional turbulence and anguish associated with the dissolution of what was once intense love and intimacy. The most moving part of the video is when Brother Sundance, beset by doubts and misgivings, smashes mirrors and a vase. As the flowers from the vase drop to the floor, the finality takes on vehement reality.

“Blind” is excellent. The evocative melody provides a velvety flow, while the rhythm becomes almost hypnotic. And the vocal harmonies dazzle with soft rich harmonies. With “Blind,” Brother Sundance demonstrates his exquisite talent for persuasive pop music that’s yazum!
