Billy Joe Madden Arrested For Allegedly Allowing 8-Year-Old Son To Drive While He Slept, Intoxicated

Police: Drunk Father Passes Out, Allows 8-Year-Old Son To Drive

Louisiana State Police arrested Billy Joe Madden after they stopped a pickup truck traveling on Interstate 12 and reportedly found his 8-year-old son driving while the 28-year-old father was intoxicated in the passenger's seat, according to Nola.com and the Louisiana State Police.

Troopers say the man's 4-year-old daughter was in the back seat when the truck was stopped Saturday morning in Livingston Parish. The child's driving was so erratic that it alarmed motorists, who called authorities.

According to WVUE Fox 8, Holden allowed his son to drive while he was asleep. The Mississippi man and the two kids were driving from Hattiesburg, Miss. to Dallas, Texas.

The two kids were placed in the custody of Child Protective Services, according to the Louisiana State Police.

Madden has been charged with two counts of child desertion, two counts of no child restraint and parent allowing a minor to drive, among other charges.

Last month, a 7-year-old boy in Michigan was pulled over after stealing his mom's car and driving 20 miles.
