Few Glitches So Far In Recording Absentee Ballots In Miami-Dade County (VIDEO)

'People Are Following Directions More This Year' (VIDEO)

Smooth sailing is the word from Miami-Dade County officials who report few problems in counting thousands of absentee ballots ahead of Election Day.

The county canvassing board had processed over 167,000 ballots cast by mail as of Thursday. A committee of high-ranking county officials checked signatures and verified the validity of a small percentage of votes.

"What has been rejected is less than half [of] a percent," longtime circuit judge and canvassing board chair Shelley Kravitz told The Associated Press. "Things are going smoothly and I think people are following directions more this year."

Out of the 283,302 mailed ballots, 59 percent had been returned by Thursday, with 5 days to go before the close of Election Day.

Absentee ballots must be received at Miami-Dade's Doral elections office by Tuesday at 7 p.m.
