10 Foods You Should Resolve To Eat More Of In 2015

Let this year be the most delicious one yet.

Each year, millions of people make New Year's resolutions that revolve around food. The only problem is that most of those resolutions are focused on keeping foods out of their lives, when really they should be focused on getting more foods into their diets.

Resolving to exclude great foods from your diet is something that is just not okay. That is not to say that you should eat with abandon -- we are not talking gluttony here. Eating a healthy, well-balanced diet is something everyone should strive for. What we are talking about, rather, is taking advantage of the culinary riches available to us today.

In the spirit of inclusion rather than exclusion, we came up with a whole new kind of food resolution -- a list of foods we suggest everyone (whose diet permits) eat more of in the new year.

Feast on more ice cream.

With Ben & Jerry's coming up with new flavors like Peanut Butter Half Baked, and artisanal ice cream makers such as Jeni's producing flavors like absinthe ice cream with hand-piped meringue kisses, we all need to be eating more ice cream in the New Year.
2
Eat (er, drink) broth.

Yep, you read that right. Some forward-thinking restaurants have started serving broth -- the back-bone of any great soup -- in coffee cups to take on the go and it is worth of seeking out.

Start your day off with Vietnamese coffee.

4
Eat something from one of the Momofuku restaurants.

Yes, we know the idea of flying to New York or Toronto or Sydney just to eat something sounds absurd, but dining at one of David Chang's restaurants is an experience everyone should enjoy. (Especially for his shiitake buns, they taste like mushroom clouds.) Why not let that experience happen in 2015?
5
Eat lots of tomatoes -- but only during the summer months.

And cucumbers. And peppers. In case you missed the in-depth reporting by the LA Times on the conditions of the farm laborers in Mexico who supply most of our winter produce, take a few minutes to give it a look. It'll explain why you should skip that tomato and mozzarella salad in the middle of March, and save it for August where it belongs.
6
Treat yo-self to an opulent meal.

You only live once. According to Adam Platt of New York Magazine, 2015 will be the year restaurants move away from burgers and pizzas and return to the opulence of prime rib and foie gras. The time is now -- feast.
7
Eat (but first make) burrata.

If you've never tried burrata before, 2015 is about to be the best year of your life. And if you love this cheese but refrain from eating it because it's hella pricy, we've got good news: make it at home and eat it on the cheap.
8
Eat more merlot steak.

We're not referring to steak that's been marinating in wine, though that's good too. No, we're talking about a cut of meat that's so lovely, it's been named after one of our favorite red wines. That's not the only lesser-known cut of meat you should be eating either. So put the tenderloin down, and try new meat.
9
Try marrow. Or gluten-free bread. Or teff.

In other words, eat past your comfort zone. It's the only way to discover something new you love to eat.
10
Eat more home-cooked meals.

If you're not a home cook -- never have been, never think you will be -- we implore you: TRY IT. With so many awesome food bloggers to inspire culinary creativity, you have amazing resources at your disposal. And who knows, you just might like it.

Happy New Year!
