Frida Kahlo: The Unexpected Icon

Why Frida Kahlo's Timeless Beauty Still Inspires Us

When it comes to beauty, Mexican artist Frida Kahlo possessed a very distinct type: strong, feminine and unabashedly honest. Kahlo refused to play down her natural features, which often meant including her unibrow and other facial hair in her brightly-colored self-portraits. Thus, she remained true to her looks when she posed for the cover of French Vogue in 1938 (center photo above). It's her signature brows that make this image only more captivating.

This week we're channeling the painter's bold lips, strong brows and iconic crown braids (similar to the ones we saw at Valentino this spring).
