Gayle King On 'The View': Two Different Shoes (VIDEO, PHOTO)

WATCH: Gayle King's Wacky Surprise On 'The View'

It may not be breaking news, but Gayle King's hilarious and surprising wardrobe moment on Friday's "The View" is certainly worth noting.

It started when Barbara Walters called attention to something strange occurring south of King's ankles.

"You took a lot of time getting dressed today?" Walters asked.

"Yes," King responded.

"Did you deliberately wear two different shoes?" Walters said.

"I wanted to see how long it would take!" King shouted.

The audience erupted with laughter, as did "View" co-hosts Joy Behar and Sherri Shepherd. King said she'd felt certain that the "View" hosts would not notice her mismatched footwear. While Behar pointed out the new trend, King admitted that she was actually wearing two different shoes in an act of defiance towards her apparently strict stylist, Andre.

"I have a stylist and...from time to time Andre and I disagree. I'm 56, I think I know how to dress myself," King said.

She then described the shoe confrontation in great detail. She noted that Andre wanted her to wear the platform pump on her left foot as it was "more classy." King preferred the patent leather open-toe sandal on her right foot and described it as "cuter" and "hotter" than the other one. The shoe discussion must have really put King over the edge as she told the ladies of "The View," "so I go, 'I'm going to wear them both!'"

King also said that her publicist was strongly against this decision and told her, "you cant walk out there...in two shoes!"

"They like to have fun on 'The View' - it's ok!" King responded.
