George Takei, 'Star Trek' Star: Gay Advocates' Work 'Is Still There' Despite DOMA, Prop 8 Rulings

"Star Trek" actor George Takei applauded the U.S. Supreme Court's rulings on the Defense of Marriage Act (or DOMA) and Prop 8, but says that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights advocates still have a lot of work to do to achieve legitimate equality across the nation.

"We were elated -- it was a joyous celebration that we had," Takei told HuffPost Live host Josh Zepps. He quickly went on to note, "Two-thirds of the country doesn't have marriage equality. We have divided our country -- one-third with equality, two-thirds without. So our work is still there in front of us."

The 76-year-old actor, who married Brad Altman in 2008, also looked back on his coming out process, and told Zepps he didn't come out to the media until 2005 because he was concerned of the impact his sexuality would have on his Hollywood career.
