Here's How To Get Rid Of That Ugly Gmail Icon

If you were recently horrified to see your familiar red envelope Gmail icon replaced by a weird blue gear, fear not. We have a solution.

Over the past several weeks, many (but not all) Gmailers have noticed this new tab icon appear in their browsers when they checked their email:

People were none too pleased about the change and many took to Twitter to express their confusion:

Ok people. Calm down. Here is how to get rid of it, according to the good people at DevBlog:

  1. Go to "Settings" by clicking on the cog icon to the right of your mailbox
  2. Go to "Labs" and find the "Unread message icon" lab
  3. Click "Enable"
  4. Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page

Phew. Now we can all get back to our Tuesday afternoon.
