The ongoing Olympic games in Rio De Janeiro is perhaps the most complicated and controversial in history. The political and economic climate of Brazil has lead to divisive opinions on the event. Major concerns like the Zika virus, the polluted water, and the inequality of poverty have come to the forefront. But it's important to remember that the purpose of the Olympics is to bring the world closer together.

The games are meant to be an event of camaraderie and a beacon of peace, and as such there are a variety of special reasons to celebrate, despite the negativity. This year, in particular, is more special than previous years thanks to the awesome introduction of Team Refugees.

Team Refugee Olympic Athletes is a group of ten competitors in three categories that represent those who have been displaced during the European migrant crisis. This isn't a team about winning medals. No, it's about representing the spirit of the games for those who have no country to play or cheer for otherwise. This is about equal opportunity.

Team Refugee Olympic Athletes is proof that some efforts being made by the Olympics committee are genuine and for the better. From all of us at Outspeak, go for the gold, and make yourselves proud.
