Groupon Announces 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' Screening At Wrigley Field

'Ferris Bueller' Will Be First Film Screened At Wrigley Field

With the classic Chicago-based comedy "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" celebrating the 25th anniversary of its release this year, Groupon and Wrigley Field have partnered to mark the occasion in rather grand fashion: a screening of the John Hughes film during the stadium's first-ever movie night.

The Chicago Tribune reports that gates for the Saturday, Oct. 1 screening will open at 5:30 p.m. Those who arrive by 7 p.m. will be invited to participate in a sing-a-long of "Danke Schoen," which aims to top the world record for Most People Singing In The Round. The film, shown on three 30-foot screens positioned in the outfield, will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets to the event went on sale at 12:01 a.m. on Groupon's website. Tuesday and range in price from $10 for one bleacher seat to $25 for an outfield lawn seat. VIP admission -- going for $75 -- will grant access to food and drinks at a two-hour pre-party at the Captain Morgan Club, according to the event announcement.

Hard-sided coolers, thermoses, lawn chairs and alcoholic beverages will not be permitted in the grounds, though other food and beverages are allowed inside. Other beverages, alcoholic and otherwise, and food will be on sale at the stadium at rates discounted from game day prices.

As NBC Chicago reports, if the weather does not cooperate, the screening will be moved to Oct. 2.

Of course, Wrigley Field is only one of the many Chicago landmarks featured in the film, which starred Matthew Broderick. The Willis (Sears) Tower, the Chicago Board of Trade, the Art Institute of Chicago were also stopping points during Bueller's well-documented Windy City adventure. Other scenes were filmed in suburban Highland Park, Northbrook, Des Plaines and Winnetka.
