NEW YORK (Reuters) - Anheuser-Busch Cos Inc (BUD.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) has had preliminary talks with Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo SAB de CV (GMODELOC.MX: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) about a possible tie-up that could thwart an unsolicited takeover bid by InBev NV (INTB.BR: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.
Citing people familiar with the matter, the newspaper said Anheuser approached Carlos Fernandez, chief executive of Modelo and an Anheuser director, about a deal after news surfaced that InBev was weighing a bid for Anheuser.
