Decoded Fashion pairs fashion and tech - with a runway twist

Music mashups, meme generators - the trend in culture is all about bringing together genres that couldn't be more different. Add to that list the high-gloss glam of fashion and the hoodie grunge of tech.

February 2-3′s Fashion Hackathon from Decoded Fashion is the latest to to help bridge that divide.

"Last April we had a conversation with three designers and asked them what apps they wish existed today," Decoded Fashion's founder Liz Bacelar told us. "And they described apps that were so easy to tackle, I was shocked."

But where most hackathons end after a sleepless, sweaty weekend, the Fashion Hackathon offers an intriguing second act.

The finalists will present their ideas from the runway of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Not only is it the first event of its kind at Fashion Week, it's the first time in memory that anyone will be speaking from the runway at the 80-year-old event.

"There are no mics," Bacelar said. "I had to track down a third-party company to figure out how to get microphones on the runway. "

Among the judges announced so far are Dirk Standen, editor-in-chief of Style.com, and Dawn Barber, co-founder of the NY Tech Meetup.

Register to attend the hackathon here, and while you can, score tickets to the actual Fashion Week event here.

Now go forth (and mic it).
