Halle Berry: Childhood Domestic Violence Made Me Feel 'Not Worthy' (VIDEO)

Oscar-winner Halle Berry's most important role happens entirely off-screen.

Berry opened up to CNN about her childhood growing up with a violent, abusive father, who used to beat her mother. Now, she volunteers at the Los Angeles Jenesse Center, an organization that provides suport for women that escape violent homes and relationships. She doesn't want what happened to her to happen to others.

"I think I've spent my adult life dealing with the sense of low self-esteem that sort of implanted in me. Somehow I felt not worthy," she told CNN. "Before I'm 'Halle Berry,' I'm little Halle....a little girl growing in this environment that damaged me...I've spent my adult life trying to really heal from that."

Now, she makes frequent donations and visits to the center, where she plays with the children that have escaped bad homes. "To them, I'm just regular crackers," she says -- and that's just the way she prefers it.
