After Discovering Girlfriend, Woman Allegedly Sets Husband, Self On Fire [UPDATE]

UPDATE: 2/20, 11:00 a.m. -- The male victim, Ghenghis Khan Kaaihue, was pronounced dead at 11:17 p.m. on Wednesday. According to Hawaii police, the case is now classified as second-degree murder.

A Hawaii woman and her husband were taken to the hospital Sunday morning after the two were set on fire during an altercation.

According to Big Island Now, the woman, 53, confronted her estranged husband after finding him with another woman in a van parked at Kahaluu Beach Park.

The couple's daughter, Tasha Kaaihue-Kalua, was present during the incident. “My parents have been having ongoing relationship problems. My mom went down there to confront my dad, who I guess has a new girlfriend," she told Hawaii News Now.

The wife allegedly began pouring gasoline over the van when her husband told her that she would "have to burn him, too." A struggle ensued, during which the pair became covered in gasoline. The woman then reportedly ignited a lighter, setting both her husband and herself on fire.

While the couple's conditions have stabilized, both remain in medically-induced comas. Kaaihue-Kalua's father has burns on 70 percent of his body; her mother has burns on 40 percent of her body.

Big Island Police opened an attempted murder investigation following the incident.
