How To Clean Your TV Screen Without Specialty Products

It's terribly distracting when we're trying to catch up on Sunday night's episode of "True Blood" but there's visible dust and fingerprints all over our television monitor. TV screens should be cleaned regularly for the best viewing experience and to keep them in good working condition. However, it's important to know that different types of televisions require special care. It is best to consult the manual that came with your set, but here are a few general tips.

Older, boxier CRT televisions can be cleaned with glass cleaner. Be sure to spray the cleaner onto a paper towel, and not directly onto the screen, so fluid does not drip down inside the plastic casing of the device. Wipe thoroughly for a streak-free shine.

Plasma television screens, on the other hand, should not be cleaned with strong solvents. Use a soft microfiber cloth to wipe away dust instead of a paper towel, as these can scratch the delicate surface. If needed, use a tiny bit of dish soap to remove any stubborn debris from the screen.

LCD screens are also very delicate, and should not be cleaned with ammonia, as this may have a chemical reaction with the screen. Buy a solvent specifically made for LCD screens or make a solution with one part isopropyl alcohol and four parts water to dissolve any grease. Lightly wipe in a circular motion.
