MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough were the guests of honor Wednesday night at a party at Arianna Huffington's home in LA.
Arianna and HuffPost senior editor Willow Bay hosted the party to celebrate the publication of Mika's book, All Things At Once, as well as the third year of "Morning Joe."
"The Huffington Post has several distinct editorial positions outside our political coverage," Bay said in introducing the night's honorees. "We're pro-flats, pro-sleep -- which means we'll be kicking everyone out at 10PM so Joe and Mika can get some sleep before going on air in a few hours -- and we're pro-books."
The "Morning Joe' hosts had a 1:30AM wake-up call to anchor the show from NBC's Burbank studio, beginning at 3AM local time. Arianna co-hosted the show along with them.
Arianna described the event as "Joe and Mika's LA coming out party" and called "Morning Joe" "everybody's favorite morning show." She added that Al Franken sent a message, telling Mika and Joe that "Morning Joe" is "the show everybody watches in the Senate gym."
Arianna called All Things At Once, which she read in galleys, "the exact opposite of Going Rogue" and said the book "resonated with my own conflicts and dilemmas."
Scarborough and Arianna both praised one another for going "beyond left and right" towards a more civil political debate.
"What you don't see here tonight are all the people who told Mika not to write the book," Scarborough said. "Four out of five women she talked to said, 'Don't do it.'"
"I was encouraged and emboldened by Arianna's feedback to the book," Brzezinski said. "Willow and Arianna are women who know exactly who they are. I model myself after women like this and women like my mother."
She acknowledged that she was going against the "pro-flats" policy, wearing Christian Louboutin heels given to her by MSNBC colleague Donny Deutsch.
Brzezinski said she was "starstruck" by the crowd -- most notably by Larry David -- which included media and entertainment industry notables including Disney CEO (and Bay's husband) Bob Iger, Universal President Ron Meyer, former William Morris chief Jim Wiatt, megaproducer Jerry Bruckheimer, Disney/ABC TV president Anne Sweeney, Lifetime CEO Andrea Wong, former Paramount CEO Sherry Lansing, CAA power TV agent Alan Berger (who reps Scarborough and Brzezinski), Overture Films CEO Chris McGurk, and MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell.
