'I, Frankenstein' Trailer Offers Look At Action-Heavy Adaptation That Might Not Get Mary Shelley's Stamp

This Probably Isn't The 'Frankenstein' Mary Shelley Intended

The newest iteration of Frankenstein's monster, played by a buff Aaron Eckhart, is "like no other" -- unless you're familiar with "Hellboy" and "Prometheus" and "Thor" and "Underworld" and "I Am Legend." The trailer for "I, Frankenstein" smacks of all the aforementioned big-budget action/sci-fi spectacles. If that's your thing, then praise be. Eckhart stars as Adam Frankenstein, the creation of Dr. Victor Frankenstein (Aden Young). Frankenstein -- should we call him Adam? -- becomes embroiled in a war that finds him protecting the world from genetically mutated creatures.

Written and directed by Stuart Beattie ("Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra") based on a comic book by Kevin Grevioux, "I, Frankenstein" also stars Bill Nighy, Yvonne Strahovski and Miranda Otto. It opens Jan. 24.
