Inauguration 2013 Taxicab $1 Surcharge Under Consideration

Special Inauguration Fee May Be OK'd For Cabs

WASHINGTON -- If you're in the nation's capital in January during President Obama's second inauguration, you might have to pay more for a taxi.

The charge would reportedly target extra passengers in each car, in order to encourage cabbies to work during the busiest times of the weekend.

WTOP-FM reports that if approved, this would be the first time for an inauguration surcharge.

The proposal will be discussed at the next D.C. Taxicab Commission meeting, currently scheduled for Nov. 14.

Inauguration Day is scheduled for Jan. 21.
