At an average of more than $300 a night, room rates at the new Gale South Beach and Regent Hotel set the tone of what to expect at this $35 million investment from Menin Hotels.
Located on the southwest corner of 17th Street and Collins Avenue, this boutique hotel captured my attention from the moment I stepped foot on the property and my eye caught the entry light fixtures -- turns out, they're replicas of the originals.
Nothing like being given a personal tour by Jared Galbut, one of the owners of Gale, who shared with us almost every detail of the space, from the family photo wall to the very cool 90 channel HD lineup on the latest IBAHN system in each room. Our invitation was extended to a sunset yacht ride, where we met the other owner of Gale, and principal of Menin Hotels, Keith Menin. But that’s another story.
The rooms are a blend of Art Deco with the modern South Beach, very chic. If you want to relax by the infinity pool on the rooftop, take your iPhone or Pad and continue to watch the movie or music you started to watch or listen in your suite with iBAHN (a digital info and entertainment provider for the hospitality industry) set up from your room. Ordering a drink before you even get to the pool may be cool, too. If not, there are speakers in the pool so you can continuously enjoy the tunes being played by the deck.
The hotel's restaurant, Dolce, offers classic Italian bites and we had a chance to try some during a tasting. Luckily we had the spaghetti and meatballs suggested by Jared earlier that day. Delish. The ‘gravy’ was perfectly homemade tasty, the meatballs were soft, the pasta al dente. My other favorite was the charred octopus with pureed chickpeas, farro and ginger pistachio. I could have had that as a main dish, to be honest.
Overall, the menu is classic Italian balanced with wines and prosecco. If you feel like some late night wood-roasted pizza, Dolce is open in the outdoor café or bar area.
Lastly, the rooftop lounge area is going to be a hit and most likely I will be there a lot. I’m already making Rec Room my Thursday nights a place to stop by, and that’s a ‘basement’ lounge. I can’t even begin to imagine what’s going to be programed on the rooftop space. One thing I do know for sure is that soon guests will be able to clearly hear and see the New World Symphony Wallcast films on Wednesday nights or the sounds of the symphony when it’s available.
Drop by when you're on South Beach and take a look for yourself. You have options of late night pizza at Dolce Italian or cocktails at The Regent Cocktail Club and, if you get there early enough, some dancing at Rec Room. -- Jipsy
