Most Inspirational Black People

Which African-Americans Inspire You The Most?

On Martin Luther King Day, we hear a lot about Martin Luther King Jr. and other famous African-Americans such as Rosa Parks, which should be expected. But countless black people have made contributions to America since day one, even if some of them aren't as well known as King and Parks.

We asked our Huff/Post50 Facebook fans to tell us the African-Americans, past and present, they found most inspirational, and the answers came pouring in.

"... Many!!!" wrote Facebook fan Chris Botello.

"Every non-violent Freedom Fighter during the Civil Rights movement," wrote Marilyn Zembo Day.

Malcom X, the slain Civil Rights activist, as well as anthropologist and author Zora Neale Hurston, made the list, as did modern-day inspirations such as rapper mogul Jay-Z and former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice (who was recently named one of CBS' newest contributors).
