Irving Park 'Mansion' For Sale: Massive Historical Home Listed For $1.69 Million (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: Sprawling Historical Home Covers 5.5 City Lots

Typical city living constraints demands that most Chicago homes take up a small footprint compared to the McMansion-style homes found in the suburbs.

One newly-listed home in the far Northwest Side neighborhood of Irving Park, however, is having none of that.

The "historically significant" 4,500 square-foot home was listed Tuesday for $1.69 million and what the price buys is one thing: space (and lots of it). In addition to the sprawling square footage of the five-bedroom three-bath home, the property itself covers five and a half city lots.

Inside, the roomy home is full of frilly "old world" details like crystal chandeliers, stained glass, arched doorways, and leaded glass doors, according to the Estately listing.

Originally named Gray's Farmhouse, the home is in the City of Chicago's historic landmarks listing. The Italianate-style home was originally built in 1856, at the height of the style's dominance.

Despite the home's age, it's been updated with fancy fittings like radiant floor heating and sports three fireplaces. Outside, there's a detached garage/coach house, an art studio and more grass than you find in some Chicago parks.
