Evanston Man Arrested After Threatening Roommate With Machete

Police say a dispute between two Evanston roommates escalated to the point where one man threatened the other with a machete.

James Crawford Richmond, 52, was arrested early Friday evening after allegedly becoming violent when his roommate refused to leave the apartment, where Richmond was hosting guests, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Evanston police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said that when the two residents of 1935 Dodge Ave. began to argue when one of the men refused to leave.

About 6:30 p.m., Guenther said Richmond took out a machete and told his roommate he was going to kill him, CBS Chicago reports. Richmond then swung the machete at a door, which he struck and damaged.

Richmond was charged with aggravated assault and is expected to appear in court in Skokie Wednesday, according to the Sun-Times.
