Brad Pitt's mother, Jane Pitt, is in hot water for an anti-gay, anti-Obama letter she wrote to Missouri's Springfield News-Leader. The mother of the A-list actor has received death threats for the statements she made against gay marriage.
Jane's letter, which commends Republican candidate Mitt Romney for his convictions regarding homosexuality, reads in part:
"Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney’s opponent, Barack Hussein Obama -- a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage."
The New York Post reports Twitter users took to the social platform and posted messages such as "Brad Pitt's mom die," "Brad Pitt’s mom wrote an anti-gay pro-Romney editorial. Kill the B----," "F--- you, brad pitt’s mom, the gay community made your kid a star, you whacko."
Although Jane has faced backlash from some, others have offered their support.
Actor Jon Voight, father of Angelina Jolie, told FOX411's "Pop Tarts" that he agrees with Jane's comments.
"Good for her," Voight told the entertainment column.
Jane also received support from her younger son, Doug.
Doug appeared on NBC's "Today" to promote his new Virgin Mobile ad campaign and touched upon the controversial statements made by his mother.
"Moms and dads and kids agree to disagree all over the world, so why would our family be any different?" he told "Today" host Matt Lauer. "There can be healthy discussion when people disagree with you, and I think there should be. The bad thing is when it turns into venom and negativity and we don’t have that in our family."
Although Brad has not yet commented on his mother's anti-gay letter, it is unlikely the actor would support the statements.
Brad Pitt, who grew up with his Southern Baptist family in Springfield, Mo., is a vocal supporter of the gay community and of gay marriage. Although he and partner Angelina Jolie are currently engaged, the 48-year-old actor has said that they do not want to marry until everyone in the country has the legal right.
"I've said, 'We would not be getting married until everyone in this country had the right to get married,'" Pitt told Ellen DeGeneres last September. "We live in this great country that is about freedoms -- defined by our freedoms and equality -- and yet we allow this discrimination to go on every day. That's not what we're about. That's not what makes us great."
