University of Miami Junior In Critical Condition After Hit and Run

University of Miami Junior and Baltimore County native Jared Paul Jones, 21, is in critical condition after being the victim of a hit and run this weekend, reports the Miami Herald.

Coral Gables police say that Jones was hit at around 7:20 p.m. Saturday on his way home from a friend's house. Witnesses say the driver was an elderly white male who may have not realized he'd struck Jones, and that he drove a silver or gray sedan with a license that includes X64. Police are still investigating the case.

Jones' family flew into Miami after hearing of the accident. Jones's mother Betsy told CBS South Florida News that "right now the life threatening part of his condition is the head trauma." She made a plea to viewers to identify the hit-and-run driver.

Coral Gables Police encourage anyone with information regarding the accident to contact them at (305) 442-1600, or to call the Miami-Dade Crimestopper at (305) 471-TIPS.
