Firefighter Donates Kidney To His Captain

One Nashville firefighter may have committed his most heroic act yet.

Al Baltz, an 11-year fire captain waited for more than a year on a kidney transplant list when he realized he finally needed to tell his fellow firefighters. And that's when Jason Upchurch stepped up, WKRN reports.

Jason Upchurch said it just took one conversation to know he wanted to get tested and donate his kidney to Baltz

"It was not really anything I had to think about," Upchurch told the news station.

Through tears, Baltz tells WKRN how Upchurch showed up at their door with the good news one day.

"He saved my husband's life absolutely and he saved our family," Jennifer Baltz said.
