Jenni Rivera's Family Holds Out Hope For Singer Following Plane Crash

Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera’s family is still waiting for a miracle.

Rivera's mother Rosa Saavedra told reporters camped outside her house on Tuesday that she still holds out hope that her daughter may emerge alive from Sunday's plane crash that is presumed to have killed Rivera and six other passengers.

“If God could make miracles before, why wouldn’t he do it now with my daughter?” Saavedra said, according to La Opinión.

Saavedra isn’t the only one who refuses to believe Rivera’s life is lost. Her son Johnny Lopez was tweeting hopeful messages like the one below until Monday night.

He’s updated the background of his Twitter profile with a photo of his mother inside the plane, which was tweeted by the singer’s publicist Arturo Rivera moments before taking off.

Rivera’s plane crashed early Sunday morning on a flight from the northern Mexican city of Monterrey bound for Toluca. The Learjet 25, which had been involved in an accident in 2005, went into a nosedive from 28,000 feet and likely hit the ground at a speed of over 600 miles per hour, according to Mexico’s Secretary of Communications and Transportation Gerardo Ruiz Esparza.

Mexican officials said Sunday night they did not believe any of the seven passengers survived the crash. Rivera’s father Pedro told reporters in Los Angeles Sunday night that his daughter had died.

“My queen, we will see each other again soon,” the singer’s father said, according to HuffPost Voces. “We thought it was press speculation, we wanted to believe that. But it’s true, my daughter is dead.”
