US Midfielder Salutes Father After Scoring Goal

Jermaine Jones scored the first goal for the United States in the 49th minute of their 2-0 win over Jamaica in the Gold Cup quarterfinals. The midfielder celebrated by saluting his soldier father on Father's Day.

"It was a nice little gift," Jones said after the game, via the Associated Press. "It was a sign of respect. It was my way of giving my father a little gift. He was a soldier and it was a sign of respect for him."

Jones' father was an American serviceman stationed in Germany, where the 29-year-old started his international career before moving to the United States in 2009.
